INTRODUCTION
DataSec are the UK's leading provider of computer forensic services and training and as such are registered with the Law Society as expert witnesses.

Misuse or crime involving computers is becoming more commonplace across all industries and sectors of business. It is not a subject that can be ignored or overlooked because it poses such a huge IT security and financial risk to many organisations. Whether Internet or email abuse, theft of intellectual property or fraud, it is of great importance that organisations are aware of their legal rights and obligations, and the commercial reasons, for monitoring and/or investigating computer misuse and crime within the workplace.

INVESTIGATIONS & LEGAL SERVICES
DataSec have a wealth of experience in undertaking independent investigations into workplace computer misuse or fraud. An effective and lawful forensic investigation takes account of legislation, recognised procedures and technical processes. This will collectively ensure that the information gathered is admissible as evidence at a later date in any criminal, commercial/civil or employment proceedings.

If required, covert workplace investigations can be undertaken to minimise the impact to daily work activity and business continuity. DataSec have considerable experience in carrying out civil search orders and have worked alongside Government agencies in executing search warrants for criminal investigations.

For those who already have the capacity to undertake IT investigations in-house, DataSec can offer independent analysis of the investigation processes, evidence gathering and documentation procedures. In the event that an investigation becomes part of court proceedings or a tribunal, DataSec can offer 'experts' to attend court and give an Expert Witness Testimony. The presentation of this evidence, by an appropriately qualified expert, is an essential aspect of the service provision.

TRAINING
DataSec have been providing training services for a number of years. More recently, following increasing demand for organisations to conduct their own internal investigations, DataSec have developed a number of training courses for IT investigators and those that manage the process.

Training courses vary from short awareness sessions for managers that might not be from an IT background (Managing Investigations Course - 1 day) to protracted development programmes for individuals that wish to gain hands on experience, working alongside our forensic team (IT Investigator's Awareness course - 2 day).

DataSec also offers bespoke training courses tailored to suit the individual requirements of clients. These can be held off-site, or on-site for larger organisations.

CONSULTANCY
DataSec provides a comprehensive consultancy service that allows clients to assess, manage, review and control the risks associated with technology in the workplace. Our experience with auditing and commercial investigations, together with up to date research and knowledge of the law is key to our service.

As part of the risk assessment process, DataSec works with the client to establish acceptable levels of risk. This takes into account business requirements, security, preferred access levels and in-house knowledge. A plan is then developed which will improve productivity, reduce misuse and manage risk on a continuous basis.

Many organisations require their own internal investigation capability, commonly referred to as 'Incident Response Team'. DataSec assists clients to create effective forensic processes in-house, allowing them to conduct lawful, and if necessary covert, investigations.

Forensic Process Validation (FPV) is for those that already have an internal capability set up to deal with IT investigations. DataSec offers an independent review, by experts, of internal processes. This gives clients added confidence in ensuring that all employee monitoring, evidence gathering and forensic processes are carried out lawfully.
